About Krystlebot - Krystlebot

Hi, I'm Krystle, the maker and everything else behind Krystlebot.

Why I started Krystlebot?

It simply started as something to challenge myself. I was using the design programs through my main work (which I love) and wanted to see what more I could do. After attending a workshop, I absolutely knew making earrings was going to be my thing.

What is the story behind Krystlebot?

After starting Krystlebot, and making a few mistakes along the way, I found what I loved doing with making earrings - making one-of-a-kind pairs of earrings. I love being the only person with my pair of earrings and the feeling I got from that. This is what shapes all my creations - sharing that feeling with others and knowing people get to add something truly unique to their earring collection.

Why earrings?

I've always considered myself a bit introverted and as I was finding my style/what I felt truly comfortable wearing, I found my love of earrings. I started wearing smaller earrings, often very subtle ones and then built up my confidence from there. I do definitely attribute a lot of what I love wearing to the wonderful Clare and Isabella at Ruck Rover who helped me discover brands like Emily & Fin, Sugar Hill BrightonOrigami Doll, Miranda Murphy, Made590 and more. They always had some different earrings too and as their range grew, so did my earring collection which definitely became more colourful and bigger in size. It's what makes me feel brighter no matter how tired or bleh I may feel.

How do you make your earrings?

I found myself buying more acrylic earrings so when I started Krystlebot, this was the medium I picked. I loved that I could use my learned skills to create different designs and essentially treat them like a blank canvas when it came to putting them together. I always pick a pattern I'd love to add to my collection, build the range from there in terms of fun and functional shapes that'd be practical for all earring lovers. The exciting bit for me is when I get the earrings cut (using Australian suppliers) and I get to create as many different designs as possible.

What makes your earrings one-of-a-kind?

Each pair of earrings I make outside of value packs are made to be one-of-a-kind. My passion is really painting each pair and it may seem crazy to others but I never have a set plan in place for any pair of earrings. I put everything on the board and see where my mind takes me - whether it's a basic range piece or my favourite way of making earrings, hand painting them. I let the colour combinations come to me in the moment to create what I think is something truly special.

Ok you've talked about earrings a lot. Tell me more about you!

Here are five fun facts about me.

  1. The name Krystlebot is actually one of my many nicknames I've collected over the years. I think it goes back to how socially awkward I was and still can be. I wear it as a badge of honour these days.
  2. My favourite colour is green. It's really hard for me not to keep adding more green earrings to my collection as I do love wearing lots of other colours too.
  3. I absolutely love living in Perth. It's home and I always said if I had to live anywhere else, it'd be in Melbourne or Vancouver but they'd have to put up a pretty big fight to get me to move.
  4. I made my logo to reflect me in many ways. I've had bunnies most of my life and wanted that to be in my logo. You can kind of guess from there where I have the stars too. I think we should look up in the sky more, particularly at night. I was pretty lucky growing up in an area that wasn't that established at the time so it might less installed lights so I could get the best views of the stars. It was pretty special being able to do that every night.
  5. I love food and reading. I don't have time for a bad meal or a book that doesn't gel but also will never have enough time (or money!) to eat and read everything I want to. I used to joke if someone cut me in half, they'd find I was made of Nutella, chilli and peated whisky.
